Michael Oberman
Director of Operations & Training



Mike began his career in 1975 with the US Navy. After many deployments to the Middle East, North Atlantic, South America and South Pacific, he left the Navy in 1986 to begin a career in Federal Law Enforcement in Santa Barbara County, California. Under the instruction of Col. Jeff Cooper,(American Pistol Institute/Gunsite) Ray Chapman, (Chapman Academy) Clint Smith, (International Training Consultants/Thunder Ranch) Louis Awerbuck, Chuck Taylor (American Small Arms Academy) and Jeff Gonzales (Trident Concepts Research Group) he quickly became one of the top firearms instructors for his agency.  His background comes from Special Operations where he was a Precision Marksman team member and squad leader with a Special Operations team in Denver Colorado and later a team leader for a Special Operations team in North Carolina.  Certified by the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, he was instrumental in leading a Precision Marksman squad during the 1992 Los Angles Riot.  While assigned in Denver Colorado he was Chief Instructor for Front Range Training in Denver and instructed many law enforcement agencies from the area including Jefferson County, Clear Creek County and Park County Sheriff's departments as well as officers from the Denver Police Department.  He was the senior instructor at his agency until his retirement from Federal Law Enforcement service in 2008. He holds current certifications with the National Rifle Association as a Firearms Instructor in Handgun, Shotgun, Rifle, Personal Protection and Home Firearms Safety and is certified to instruct the North Carolina Concealed Handgun as well as the Virginia Concealed Handgun course.  Mike personally instructs all SVDFI Concealed Carry, Defensive Handgun, Defensive Shotgun and Defensive Carbine courses.

Nancy Oberman

Nancy began her career in Law Enforcement in 1978 as a Police Officer for the City of New Iberia, Louisiana and later as a Police Officer in Carthage, Mississippi. She became a Federal Law Enforcement Officer in 1987 in Oakdale, Louisiana.  She served three years as a firearms instructor at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Georgia 2001-2004.  She instructed all federal agencies in firearms tactics and was one of only a few women firearms instructors at the training center until her return to the field in North Carolina in 2004.  She holds current firearms instructor certifications with the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center ,North Carolina Department of Corrections and NCDOJ.  She is certified as a NC DOC Control, Restraint and Defensive Tactics and Advanced Monadock Expandable Baton instructor.  Nancy has trained exclusively at Thunder Ranch with Clint Smith and The American Small Arms Academy with Chuck Taylor.  Nancy is retired from Federal Law Enforcement service and is currently a contract instructor at a local Community Collage. She instructs Firearms, Basic Law Enforcement Training, NC BLET Firearms Instructor, Detention Officer Certification, In Service Training for NC DOC and General Instructor courses. She is certified to instruct the North Carolina Concealed Handgun course, and certified to re-certify NC retired LEO under LEOSA.  Nancy coordinates the women's only program and personally instructs the SVDFI Women's Only Defensive Handgun course.
